Tottenham fans poke fun at Nicolas Pepe’s Arsenal struggles

Nicolas Pepe played 78 minutes of Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United in the Premier League on Monday night.

And it was another tough outing for the summer arrival from Lille.

That said, the statistics show that he was heavily involved in the action.

Indeed, according to WhoScored, Pepe had three shots, five dribbles and made five tackles during a lively display against the Blades.

There was again a lack of an end product, though, and Pepe has struggled to show his best form for the Gunners since moving to the club ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

The 24-year-old will surely be given time to make his mark at the Emirates Stadium.

However, his recent struggles have gone down very well with the Tottenham Hotspur fans, who once again poked fun at Pepe on Monday night after criticising his performance against Watford in September.

Indeed, many could not resist the temptation to blast the attacker for his performance at Bramall Lane – and a selection of the Twitter reaction can be seen below:

West Ham fans want Nathan Trott to be recalled to replace the injured Fabianski

Lukas Fabianski has been ruled out for at least two months and his absence has led lots of fans to call on the club to recall Nathan Trott.

The goalkeeper is on loan at AFC Wimbledon this season and is therefore behind Roberto in the pecking order, but the performance of the Spanish keeper against Oxford in the Carabao Cup, when he conceded four, appears to be really worrying Irons supporters.

As a result, many can’t bare to see him in action again, let alone for two months, and instead the young Trott is preferred, despite conceding 15 goals in eight league games for the Dons this season.

Overall, there is a complete lack of faith in Roberto, who at 33 is appearing in England for the first time in his career, but his showing in the cup underlined that Fabianski could be a huge miss.

As a result, Hammers fans are keen to see as many options as possible available to Manuel Pellegrini, as the reactions below show.

Man Utd fans in meltdown after Mason Greenwood gets injury

When it rains, it pours. Manchester United have had major struggles with injuries since the start of the current campaign, and unfortunately for them, it’s been largely centred around the area they could least afford it.

Having sold Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez in the summer transfer window, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have very few options at the centre-forward position. Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial have had their injury problems already, and the latter has remained out of action since missing the game against Southampton.

Now, things appear to be going from bad to worse, with the Red Devils confirming via their official Twitter account, that rising prospect Mason Greenwood has withdrawn from the England U21s squad due to a back problem.

It adds “he will remain at the Aon Training Complex” ahead of the clash against Liverpool on October 20, but there is no word as to whether he will be fit in time for the match.

After hearing the injury update on the teenager, United fans flooded to Twitter to voice their frustrations with the situation.

Many supporters of the Manchester side appeared to be in meltdown, and one fan in particular simply insisted the club are heading for relegation this season.

Rangers fans discuss Brandon Barker after first Gers goal

Rangers returned to winning ways after defeat in the Old Firm Derby before the international break as they beat Livingstone 3-1 at Ibrox on Saturday.

The visitors went 1-0 up courtesy of Steven Lawless but goals from James Tavernier, Alfredo Morelos and Brandon Barker meant the Gers eventually prevailed.

Livingston were reduced to ten men on 73 minutes but the score stayed the same as Rangers secured all three points.

Barker’s strike happened to be his first for the club, something that provoked discussion on Twitter after he stepped up when Ryan Kent went off injured.

He impressed so much that someone posed the question of who actually needed Kent. A further individual said he deserved his goal.

Another fan stated he played class when he came on whilst he was also labelled as brilliant.

The 22-year-old is a recent signing for Rangers having joined from Manchester City in the summer.

The goal will likely come as some relief to him having endured a loan spell with Preston in 2018/19 where he failed to score in the Championship.

Here’s the best of the reaction to his goal.

Aston Villa fans loved Bjorn Engels’ performance in West Ham draw

[ad_pod ]

A number of Aston Villa fans have lavished praise on Bjorn Engels following Monday’s night’s goalless draw with West Ham United in the Premier League.

Villa’s supporters have recently admitted that they are concerned about their team’s perceived lack of options in the final third of the field.

However, defenders Tyrone Mings and Frederic Guilbert have already been widely praised in the early stages of the 2019/20 campaign, and it seems that Engels is also hugely popular with the fanbase for his form this term.

The 24-year-old – a summer arrival from Reims – won two aerial duels and had a pass success rate of 86% against West Ham on Monday night, according to WhoScored.

And it would be fair to say that the supporters were absolutely delighted with what they saw from the central defender – who has not missed a minute of Premier League football this season – against Manuel Pellegrini’s side.

Tottenham fans lavish praise on Fernando Llorente

[ad_pod ]

It is funny how quickly things can change.

When Fernando Llorente missed an incredible chance to register against Watford on Wednesday night, the Tottenham Hotspur fans may have thought it was going to be another one of those nights for the Spaniard.

The 33-year-old is currently being tasked with leading the line in the absence of Harry Kane, which is not exactly the easiest thing in the world.

Overall, Llorente had a difficult night against Watford, but there proved to be a fairytale ending for the former Athletic Bilbao man as he netted an 87th-minute winner in Spurs’ 2-1 victory.

As expected, there were wild celebrations when Llorente registered and it could well be a turning point for the Spaniard, who was linked with an exit this month by The Daily Mail in December.

The Tottenham fans did a flip when Llorente – earning £75,000 a week according to Spotrac – scored the winner, with a large number taking to social media to lavish praise on the centre-forward.

A selection of the reaction from the club’s supporters can be seen below:

Tottenham’s Christian Eriksen posts on Instagram after disappointing Denmark result

The Tottenham midfielder posted a message in his native language thanking the fans and ensuring them that they will give it their all to recover in October when the next qualifiers roll around.

Eriksen’s heroics carried Denmark to the last major tournament, as his hat-trick against Ireland in a qualification playoff sent the Scandinavians to Russia 2018.

Hopefully, this latest Instagram post can inspire his teammates to step up their performances and book Denmark a place in next year’s European Championships.

Conte a big fan of Spurs target McKennie

Tottenham Hotspur remain interested in Weston McKennie and manager Antonio Conte is said to be a huge fan…

What’s the word?

According to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport (via Sport Witness), the 52-year-old is pushing sporting director Fabio Paratici to sign the American midfielder this month.

It’s thought that Juventus would be open to selling him but will only listen to ‘suitable’ offers. He is currently valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt.

Although the 23-year-old has emerged as a regular since the Old Lady changed manager and reappointed Massimiliano Allegri, so that makes any move a little harder.

Give Conte what he wants

With the futures of Tanguy Ndombele and Dele Alli in doubt, it’s no wonder Conte wants a new central midfielder and he could stumble upon his dream profile in McKennie.

The 28-cap USMNT international is capable of playing in a variety of roles in the engine room, as revealed by former Huddersfield Town boss David Wagner, who managed him at Schalke 04.

[snack-amp-story url = “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/tottenham-latest-news-transfer-gossip-rumours-conte-paratici-levy-premier-league” title=”Read the latest Spurs news, transfer updates and much, much more!”]

“He’s an outstanding talent. In the No.6 or No.8 position he has the mentality, a real working mentality that you need. And he’s brave on the ball as well. He can be one of the best midfielders in the Bundesliga,” he said via the league’s official website.

Indeed, the box-to-box beast is among Allegri’s top-four best-performing players in the Serie A this season – on top of providing three goals in 16 appearances, he has averaged a squad-high 1.4 interceptions, 1.3 shots and 1.1 dribbles per game, via WhoScored.

This suggests that Wagner’s words do ring true – not only can he thwart an attack but he is more than capable of driving the ball forward into the final third and his goal record further proves this, too.

It also shows his impressive work rate, another factor that will surely be behind Conte’s admiration for him. McKennie has also been likened to Arturo Vidal in terms of playing style and the Chilean beast played a big role in Inter Milan’s title triumph under the Spurs boss last season.

As such, it’s on Paratici and co to land the impressive 6-foot powerhouse as his first signing this month. He’d be a fantastic and necessary addition to the Italian’s central midfield armoury.

AND in other news, Paratici can seal biggest Spurs signing since Son in £45m-rated “extraordinary talent”…

Leeds United: Orta eyeing Bielsa successor

Leeds United are actively pursuing transfer targets ahead of deadline day next week but they also are mindful of Marcelo Bielsa’s future heading into next season…

What’s the word?

The Argentine is out of contract at the end of the current campaign and has only ever extended his deal by a year, meaning there is always a question mark over whether he will stay or go as we head towards the summer.

Phil Hay of The Athletic has previously claimed that he has a “hunch” that this will be the 66-year-old’s final season in charge of the Yorkshire giants, regardless of how things pan out.

And now, ever-reliable Daily Mirror journalist David Anderson has dropped an intriguing claim to GIVEMESPORT this week.

“They’ll be looking for somebody. This is going on as we speak, they’re looking to identify possible coaches who will be similar to him in terms of style,” he revealed.

Life after Bielsa?

This is certainly an interesting revelation given the timing.

Victor Orta and co are busying trying to bolster the Argentine’s playing squad with RB Salzburg midfielder Brenden Aaronson thought to be the priority, having had a £15m bid rejected for him already in recent days.

[snack-amp-story url = “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/latest-leeds-united-lufc-transfer-rumours-gossip-bielsa-orta-radrizzani-elland-road-updates” title=”Read the latest Leeds news, transfer updates and much, much more!”]

But the Spanish director of football also appears to be on the lookout for a similar sort of manager to carry the club forward into the future, and you’d have to wonder if that is on the back of his mind when conducting business this window.

If Bielsa is only going to be here for another five or so months, should he really have total control over likely incomings?

One name that has regularly been linked with the role is former Granda boss Diego Martinez, who is still out of work despite offers from LaLiga teams like Cadiz in recent months.

He seems destined for Elland Road and is infatuated with the English game, as revealed during an interview with the Guardian in November.

“When I was a kid, I would go to my cousin’s to watch the Premier League because he had Canal Plus. I saw [David] Beckham from the halfway line at Wimbledon there. You think: ‘This is different, I have to experience it’,” he said.

Whether the fellow Spaniard is Orta’s choice remains to be seen, as is the questionable future of Bielsa in west Yorkshire. Either way, it certainly appears as if the Leeds supremo is planning a major move or two in the near future, both in the transfer market and in the hunt for the Arengtine’s successor.

AND in other news, Leeds could secure Bielsa a bargain Aaronson alternative in £22.5m-rated “phenomenon”…

Man City fans flock to striker update

Flocking to Twitter, many Manchester City fans have erupted over the latest transfer update out of their club following on from their alleged agreement to sell Ferran Torres to Barcelona.

The Spaniard, as per very reliable reports, will return to Spain as the Catalans and City shake hands on a £46.7m (€55m) initial fee plus a further £8.5m (€10m) in add-ons (Sky Sports).

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/man-city-latest-updates-2/” title=”Man City latest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

Torres came to Eastlands with bags of potential and impressed on more than one occasion, but a move to Barcelona is seemingly too good to turn down for the player with City now cashing in after just one full season.

As the Sky Blues and sporting director Txiki Begiristain look set for a cash injection, an update has emerged on City’s transfer plans courtesy of reliable reporter James Ducker of The Telegraph.

According to his information, the money raised by Torres’ sale will likely be put towards the signing of a star striker for next year with Pep Guardiola’s side still firmly in the race to sign Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Braut Haaland.

Man City fans erupt…

Flocking to this transfer claim, which one fan called ‘massive’, many City supporters have erupted on Twitter given their club’s failure to sign a world-class forward in the summer.

It is arguably the only gaping hole in Guardiola’s squad after the departure of club legend Sergio Aguero with the City coach yet again improvising with makeshift options this campaign.

Hearing the fee for Torres could be reinvested to back City with a star forward, as a result, has come as music to the ears of supporters – especially with Haaland as a target.
