Wilfried Zaha scored the decider as Crystal Palace somewhat stopped the rot from spreading further by drawing with Leicester City in the Premier League at Selhurst Park.

Following back-to-back defeats to Liverpool and Aston Villa respectively, Roy Hodgson will have had every right to feel a little bit anxious about his position.

After failing to score against ten-man Villa, Hodgson’s side rediscovered some of their attacking edge as they picked up a vital point.

Zaha gave the Eagles the lead in the second half after Vicente Guaita saved a pathetic penalty attempt from Kelechi Iheanacho, only for Harvey Barnes to level the score.

While Zaha will most likely receive much of the plaudits, Jairo Riedewald deserves the spotlight after he put in such a solid defensive shift against the Foxes.

The Palace defensive-minded midfielder has earned his stripes so far this season and really seems to have embraced the challenge, causing all sorts of mischief in the midfield. He’s already scored one goal in the Premier League this season but even though he couldn’t get himself on the scoresheet on Monday afternoon, this was easily one of his best performances yet.

Riedewald, who earns roughly £55,000-per-week at SE25, was a constant nuisance for Brendan Rodgers’ side as he took delight in breaking up attacks at almost free will.

The 24-year-old was involved in most of the action in the midfield as he made one clearance, one interception, two tackles – more than his teammate James Tomkins – and blocked one shot.

Despite his best efforts, he couldn’t help Palace keep their first clean sheet since the 1-0 win over Southampton at the start of the season, although it’s worth pointing out he had already been replaced by James McArthur by the time Barnes found the bottom corner.

However, this will do little to take the shine off his impressive shift, as Riedewald made the most of his sixth start of the season with a dominant display shielding the defence.

Per SofaScore, he won four out of his five duels overall (80%), showing his strength by winning the majority of his individual battles with Leicester midfielder Nampalys Mendy.

It feels like we’ve said this before, but this is just the latest example of impressive performances from the former Netherlands international. You do have to wonder why he hasn’t started more often after his latest showing.

وكانت وزارة الرياضة أعلنت عودة مجلس مرتضي منصور بالكامل، وذلك تنفيذًا لحكم محكمة القضاء الإداري بمجلس الدولة بقبول طعن رئيس الزمالك السابق مرتضى منصور وإيقاف قرار وقفه واستبعاد مجلس إدارة نادي الزمالك.(طالع البيان من هنــا)

وقال أحمد مرتضي خلال تصريحات عبر قناة “صدى البلد” لبرنامج “الماتش”: “من تعاقد مع كارتيرون هو مرتضى منصور، ولا أعتقد أنه ستحدث أي مشكلة”.

وأضاف: “أي شخص يسعد الجماهير ويخدم الزمالك نحن في ظهره، كارتيرون حصل على الدوري الموسم الماضي فنحن في ظهره وسيستكمل مسيرته”.

وأتم: “الحزن شىء والمصلحة شىء آخر، مصلحتي هي مصلحة الزمالك، التاريخ هو الذي يقول لنا لماذا رحل، ولكن الأهم أننا ندعمه”.

تجدر الإشارة إلي أن كارتيرون كان قد دفع قيمة الشرط الجزائي وقرر الرحيل عن الزمالك في شهر أكتوبر العام الماضي، في ظل وجود مجلس مرتضي منصور، قبل أن يعود مرة أخرى لقيادة الفارس الأبيض الموسم الماضي في ظل اللجنة التي تولت شؤون النادي.

Kelvin estava na cidade de São Paulo desde o último fim de semana, realizou exames médicos na segunda-feira e na terça. Com o resultado positivo das avaliações, foi anunciado pelo clube do Morumbi nesta quinta, após assinar o contrato de empréstimo.

A contratação do jogador foi aprovada pelo técnico Edgardo Bauza e ele será o quinto reforço no elenco para a temporada. Antes de Kelvin, chegaram o lateral esquerdo Eugenio Mena, o zagueiro Diego Lugano e os centroavantes Jonathan Calleri e Kieza. Destes, apenas o beque e Kieza ainda não estrearam com a camisa tricolor.

The now 17-year-old has been in prolific form at Premier League 2 level this season, bagging an impressive six goals in just nine games in the competition, including showing his versatility by playing through the middle and out wide.

The club’s academy manager, Mark Harrison, declared: “He is still a very young man but as he’s developed, he’s always been one player that you always recognise as having outstanding attributes. He’s got a fantastic mentality, he’s desperate to do well for this football club.”

Barry’s style of play is something that Villa fans will surely be excited about too, with Harrison adding: “As a player, his real strength is his work rate, he’s constantly pressurising the opposition when they are on the ball, looking to create opportunities for himself to nick the ball high up the pitch.

“He is quick, and looks to play off the shoulders of the defenders, always looking for space behind them to be able to run into. He’s good in 1v1s and scores a lot of goals from balls in behind that he can run onto. He’s very much in the mould of a Jamie Vardy.”

With Villa up against it tonight, Barry might be the player to really steal the limelight.

On Sunday’s evidence, Leeds are clearly in need of more depth.

Marcelo Bielsa picked a range of youth and experience when the Whites met Crawley but the stand-in players hardly did a good job.

He was stern in the tackle but was also calm and composed in possession of the ball. Vazquez was well-disciplined, not committing a single foul and winning eight of the duels he contested.

This was a performance that went under the radar but like Dallas, he deserves special praise for doing things safely and securely.

If Leeds have a chance to sign the 29-year-old this month, they must do so.

In the end, Arsenal surrendered their hold on the FA Cup with a meek defeat to Southampton on Saturday afternoon.

Mikel Arteta’s side had gone into the game off the back of some good results in the Premier League, but right from the very first whistle, the Gunners looked completely disjointed – it certainly didn’t help that the Arsenal boss decided to make some changes to his starting line-up.

And one of those players who came in from the cold, was Eddie Nketiah.

The England U21 international was given the chance to start from the off, a particularly telling show of faith given that reports have suggested West Ham are interested in signing him and Folarin Balogun’s hat-trick for the U23s a day earlier.

If the game against Southampton was seen as Nketiah’s opportunity to prove the doubters wrong and show everyone what he can do, then he badly fluffed his lines.

As per Sofascore, he lost 11 of his 12 duels on the day, with the majority of his time being spent failing miserably to try and hold his ground against the likes of Jan Bednarek and Jack Stephens at the heart of the Southampton defence.

Nketiah struggled massively in that lone number nine role, constantly trying to make runs into the channels, but not providing any hold-up or link-up play with the rest of the Gunners’ attackers.

It was telling that he made just 19 passes in the time that he was on the pitch, by far the lowest amount of any starter. And his usual strong point of finishing chances in and around the box also deserted him, including Arsenal’s biggest opportunity when he was put through on goal only for him to meekly toe poke it at Fraser Forster.

Whilst Nicolas Pepe may come under intense criticism for another display where he failed to really impose his own game, it was Nketiah who arguably let his manager down the most.

Arteta gave him the keys to Arsenal’s attack with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang not in the squad, and Alexandre Lacazette being rested on the bench. This display would have done nothing to convince him that Nketiah is ready to start in the Premier League anytime soon.
