Sunderland could revive their interest in Marcus Maddison this summer after he left League One rivals Peterborough.

Sunderland and Peterborough both missed out on promotion to the Championship in the 2019/2020 season and they are set for a summer that will sees multiple players come in and leave.

The Black Cats currently have 11 players free to leave the club come June 30 as their current contracts come to an end, and manager Phil Parkinson will have his work cut out to replace the likes of Chris Maguire and Jon McLaughlin.

Peterborough, who will also see some players leave, have allowed Maddison to depart the club along with six other players.

Maddison ends a six-year spell at Peterborough which saw him spend time on loan with Championship side Hull City for the second half of the 2019/20 season. During his time with the Tigers, the midfielder scored one goal in seven games, whilst he scored nine goals and supplied six assists for Posh during the first half of the season.

Now that the 26-year-old is available on a free, Sunderland are expected to reignite their interest and it could prove to be a match made in heaven for the player, who supported the Black Cats as a kid.

Chronicle Live touch on the previous interest shown by the Wearside club, whilst also noting that Hull could offer Maddison a short-term deal to help them finish the Championship season, which is due to resume this coming weekend.

Maddison’s form in the latter months of 2019 shows that he can be a very effective presence at League One level and, with Sunderland set to have their squad decimated, new signings will soon become a matter of urgency for Parkinson.

The Black Cats could do a lot worse than bringing in a proven player in this division, all the more so now that he is available on a free transfer.

Scottish Premiership side Rangers have made a late move for Sunderland keeper Jon McLaughlin who was expected to sign for Blackburn Rovers.

The Black Cats’ failed to gain a return to the Championship this summer after the English Football League opted to end the 2019/2020 League One season via a points-per-game system.

Phil Parkinson’s side are now expected to undergo a whole host of changes in the summer transfer window in what they hope will be a successful campaign next term.

Scottish ‘keeper McLaughlin will see his current contract expire at the end of June and he has been linked with a move to Championship side Blackburn Rovers .

A regular for the Wearside club this term, making 32 League One appearances and keeping 11 clean sheets, whilst conceding just 27 goals, McLaughlin will be a huge loss to Parkinson if he does not agree a new deal to stay at the Stadium of Light.

And, that is now looking extremely likely as Rangers have joined Blackburn with interest as they look to find a replacement for Wes Foderingham.

Football Insider claim that Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is keen to find an established back-up keeper to Allan McGregor and that McLaughlin has been identified as the man to fill the void.

From a Sunderland point of view, McLaughlin has gone. The club’s lack of promotion is likely to backfire on them in the coming weeks as players look to depart, some on free transfers and the Scottish stopper is one of those.

A move to either Blackburn or Rangers is a step up simply to good to turn for the 32-year-old, particularly at his age, and you have to feel that the latter would be his preferred choice given the sheer size of the club and the fact that they can also offer European football.

O volante Renê Júnior, ex-jogador do Santos e do Guangzhou Evergrande (CHN), se apresentou na manhã desta quinta-feira no Centro de Treinamento da Ponte Preta. Treinando com o grupo desde o início do mês, o jogador de 26 anos assinou contrato até o fim da temporada e volta ao clube que defendeu em 2012 querendo repetir a trajetória de sucesso.

Manchester United are ready to challenge Chelsea after reigniting their interest in West Ham’s Declan Rice, according to Football Insider. 

Rice was previously on Chelsea’s books before he decided to move to West Ham and he has established himself as a fully-fledged England international during his time at the London Stadium. Chelsea are keen to bring their academy graduate back to Stamford Bridge, but the Red Devils have now entered the race to sign him in the summer.

The 21-year-old, who plays as a defensive midfielder, has played 35 games in the Premier League this season, supplying two assists, winning 3.1 tackles per game, averaging 1.9 interceptions, and successfully completing 1.3 clearances per game on average (via WhoScored).

Rice can also be deployed in the back line and his versatility could prove useful wherever he ends up.

The Englishman, who is best friends with Chelsea’s Mason Mount, has been one of the few highlights in a difficult season for the Hammers, as they find themselves embroiled in a relegation battle at the bottom of the table.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer doesn’t have a shortage of midfielders at Manchester United, as he can call upon the likes of Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay and Fred. However, Nemanja Matic remains the club’s only designated defensive midfielder, which could become a problem in the future as he isn’t getting any younger.

Given his young age, Rice could turn out to be a shrewd investment, as his valuation is likely to increase if he can maintain his solid form. Even if he is signed and the move doesn’t work out as hoped, Solskjaer would still have gained a valuable asset, as he is currently valued at £44.5m via Transfermarkt.

According to Gent chairman Ivan De Witte in an interview with De Zondag, via Voetbalkrant, the Yorkshire giants have tabled a very decent offer for their in-demand talisman, Jonathan David.

Amid interest from Ligue 1 outfit Lille, he said: “The contacts came to a halt this week, but other clubs are actually interested. With much better proposals even. Including Leeds.”

The impressive 20-year-old striker has also been mooted with moves to Arsenal, Manchester United and Borussia Monchengladbach.
