Leeds are tasked with bouncing back from a first away defeat of the season this evening.

However, it won’t be an easy challenge as they face a West Brom side unbeaten in the league with Slaven Bilic at the helm.

The Baggies are currently top of the table and have made a fine response to not achieving promotion in 2018/19.

Albion secured a 2-0 victory last time out, whereas the Whites suffered a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Charlton.

But how could Leeds line-up at Elland Road on Tuesday? Here’s what we’re predicting.

One big change could be made upfront and we’re tipping Eddie Nketiah to come in for a first league start of the campaign.

The Arsenal loanee has waited patiently for a chance and following a run of four games without a goal for Patrick Bamford, now seems as good a time as any to bring in the 20-year-old, especially as it’s a midweek outing.

Pablo Hernandez is set to sit out while Adam Forshaw is also likely to be absent with the same injury that kept him out before his return at The Valley.

That means that Tyler Roberts could come back into the fold for his first start of the season.

He had fluid drained from his knee and only returned from the bench last time out but Jamie Shackleton’s form has been poor.

The youngster failed to register a single shot or key pass against Derby and was then hauled off at half-time last weekend. He clearly isn’t having a good time of it recently.

Barry Douglas and Luke Ayling played for the U23s on Monday afternoon so assume Gjanni Alioski and Stuart Dallas will continue in the full-back roles.

Jack Harrison and Helder Costa should maintain their places on the flanks.

وتفيد صحيفة “موندو ديبورتيفو” الإسبانية، أنه على الرغم من علم برشلونة أن ديمبلي لم يكن مدرجًا في قائمة اللاعبين الباقيين في المراحل الأولى من حقبة كومان، إلا أنهم أعجبوا بالموقف الإيجابي من ديمبلي الذي لم يرغب في الذهاب إلى مانشستر يونايتد.

Generally, a football club would only normally purchase a player to try and help improve their squad and would likely give them at least an opportunity within the first team. That would appear to have been the plan for Chelsea when they signed Michael Hector from Reading in 2015.

The Jamaica international was brought to the club from the Royals in a deal worth around £4m to bolster Jose Mourinho’s options at the back as there were concerns about how leaky the defence had become, although the centre-back did remain at his previous employers on loan for the remainder of the season (BBC).

Perhaps, there was a belief that if Hector managed to perform well with Reading in the Championship that year, he would be able to make the step up and become an important member of the Blues’ squad. Well, it would seem Chelsea never actually got to find out.

Despite being a member of the Stamford Bridge roster for four years, the now-27-year-old has featured exactly zero times for the west London outfit in competitive fixtures.

Indeed, Hector would spend time at Eintracht Frankfurt, before coming back to England and playing for Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday as he continued to get on with his footballing career away from Stamford Bridge.

On the face of things, it certainly would not appear to have been £4m well spent by Chelsea. However, that all changed in September, as the Blues somehow managed to double their money with the centre-back as they managed to sell him to neighbourhood rivals Fulham for £8m (although he cannot play for them until January 2020).

That appears to have been a massive sum of money to be handed over considering, arguably, his career at SW6 was stagnating and hardly going anywhere as clubs would, perhaps, look to cut their losses and look to shift them on.

The fact that the Blues managed to get £8m is also astonishing considering his market value (as per Transfermarkt) was one that was not considered to be anywhere close to the value he was sold at.

When Chelsea purchased him, Hector was estimated to be worth around £675k, although that quickly shot up to £2.7m and then £3.6m following his time in the Bundesliga with Frankfurt. However, since returning to England, he went back to £2.7m and never moved from that valuation despite his loan spells at Hull and Sheffield Wednesday.

Gaining £4m profit and never having to play him in a competitive match whilst on the books, the Blues did extremely well to double their money on what appeared to be a flop of a transfer.

وقال كاراجر عن اختياره لصلاح خلال مقالته عبر صحيفة “تليجراف” البريطانية: “صلاح في هذه القائمة وهو عكس أي لاعب آخر في هذه القائمة، لم يكن ولن يكون أبدًا مُهاجم رقم (9)”.

وأضاف: “لم يكن مثل المهاجمون الذين يشاركون في العمق، مثل ثل إريك كانتونا ودينيس بيركامب”.

وواصل: “ولكن صلاح يجب أنّ يكون استثناءً لأن هدفه الأساسي خلال مسيرته في الأنفيلد كان التسجيل، وكانت إحصائياته خارج النطاق منذ انضمامه ليفربول”.

وتابع: “في كل موسم من مواسمه الثلاثة في آنفيلد، فاز إما بالحذاء الذهبي أو دوري الأبطال أو الدوري الإنجليزي”.

Even though West Brom aren’t competing in the top-flight of English football, several of the players amongst the squad are still called up for international duty – even more so after the start they’ve had to this campaign.

The Baggies occupy top spot after 11 matches as their 4-2 victory over Cardiff City saw them regain possession of the Championship lead.

Just days earlier, Slaven Bilic’s men had seen their unbeaten record halted at the hands of Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United, but they responded perfectly to put that behind them.

Semi Ajayi has appeared to continue his rich vein of form onto the international stage after featuring for Nigeria on Sunday afternoon.

The 25-year-old centre-back has cemented his name as one of the bargains of the summer in the Championship so far this season, proving to be an influential member of Bilic’s backline.

And even though the side have kept just one clean sheet, he’s still been a significant presence at either end of the pitch after scoring two goals and averaging 4.2 clearances per game, via WhoScored.

The Super Eagles were faced with a tough friendly against Brazil in Singapore as Ajayi featured for the full 90 minutes.

During the game, he had to defend against the likes of PSG star Neymar, Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino, Manchester City’s Gabriel Jesus and Bayern Munich’s temporary man Philippe Coutinho.

Considering 31 places separate Brazil (third) to Nigeria (34th) in the world rankings, only conceding the one goal is quite some feat, and in doing so, the West Brom defender played his part in defending a wave of attacks.

AllNigeriaSoccer handed Ajayi a 7.5 out of ten and said: “Did admirably well in the rear and carried the ball with poise and confidence. Arguably his team’s best defender.”

This is a glowing review and bodes particularly well if he can perform against some of the most threatening attackers in world football.

This level of performance is a good sign for Albion’s Premier League hopes as the 6 foot 4 centre-back has made a huge stride in showing his credentials against elite opposition.

If the Baggies can indeed gain promotion this season, they’ll know they can call upon Ajayi in defence.

Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe joined the Gunners for a club-record £72m from Lille in the summer but his agent has revealed that he was “convinced” that he would move to Napoli instead.

What’s the word?

The north London side smashed their transfer fee record to bring the winger to London, after previously spending £56m to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund in 2018.

Speaking with Radio Marste via Corriere dello Sport, Pepe’s agent Mario Giuffredi said: “I was in Dimaro, convinced Napoli had got him.

“Unfortunately, however, other factors come into play and when we talk of commissions, Napoli are limited in certain operations.”

Bad timing

With the Ivorian taking some time to bed into his new surroundings in north London, it’s poor timing from Giuffredi to make such remarks while his client is under pressure to get up to speed.

Pepe has admitted that his confidence has been low since his move from France because of the level of skill required in the Premier League and the language barrier, per RMC (via the Metro).

Indeed, he has scored just one goal in 10 appearances for the London side, and that came from the penalty spot against Aston Villa.

As quoted by the Telegraph, Arsenal boss Unai Emery told Pepe that he must embrace the pressure that the football club brings and that it is a privilege to play for the club.

Whether Pepe takes the feedback on board is another matter entirely, however.

The 24-year-old, though, will now be feeling the weight of his agent’s words on his shoulders and supporters are unlikely to be happy either.

As it is right now, they may wish he had joined Napoli.

Birmingham City are struggling for goals right now.

In fact only two teams in the division have scored fewer goals than them. With the January window still a way away, Blues boss Pep Clotet will have to look for solutions within the camp until the opportunity to bring in reinforcements comes.

Whilst Clotet might look for players within the first team to pick up their game a bit more, there is one man who has slowly but surely managed to find his feet with the U23 side, and that form is coming at just the right time given his contract situation.

Miguel Fernandez has scored four times for the Birmingham U23 side this season, and both of them came in braces, against Wigan Athletic at the start of the month and versus Leeds United last Friday. So he may not be the most consistent, but on his day he can pack a punch.

His tally for the current term is higher than anyone in the first team with Lukas Jutkiewicz currently only on three. Thus, it’s surely worth a gamble giving the youngster a go?

Much in the same way we documented on FFC with goalkeeper Moha Ramos, and how the fact he is only with the club on loan should give a sense of urgency to the process of bringing him into the first-team, Fernandez is only with the club on a six-month contract, so that process should be even quicker.

With the Championship really kicking into gear now, if the first team can’t produce the goods, then Clotet might have to take a gamble with the youth.

He has already shown this year that he isn’t scared of giving young players a chance, with the emergence of Jude Bellingham being the best example, as well as the rise of Odin Bailey after his goal against Middlesbrough, so it’s not impossible that he will go down that route and call on the 19-year-old.

And if he can put as good a set of performances for the first team as he has for the U23 side, then he might just find himself staying at St Andrew’s for longer than the six months he’s currently scheduled to.

Nampalys Mendy could be allowed to leave Leicester City during the January transfer window, as reported by The Telegraph.

Brendan Rodgers is looking to trim down his squad, with the Frenchman being touted as somebody who could leave the King Power Stadium, having arrived there in 2016.

Mendy has been cast to the side at Leicester, playing just one solitary minute of football this season, as per WhoScored, which came when he replaced Youri Tielemans during the 2-1 win over Sheffield United.

A sign of how far down the pecking order he has fallen in a quick period of time, is that the 27-year-old started 23 league games last season and came off the bench on 8 occasions.

The rise of Hamza Choudhury will likely have contributed to this, as the 22-year-old only made 7 starts and 2 substitute appearances last season, but has already played 4 games from the start and come off the bench for another 4 this time around.

Letting Mendy leave is likely the best move for the Frenchman’s career, as the chances of him getting any substantial game time at the King Power Stadium seem very slim.

This can also be a good move for Leicester, as any of the funds raised can be added to the Harry Maguire money and used to further strengthen the squad.
