Celtic could look to bolster their playing squad over the next couple of months after the summer transfer window officially opened for business recently.

The Hoops won the domestic double during the 2023/24 campaign – lifting the Scottish Premiership title and the SFA Cup – but still want to strengthen Brendan Rodgers' options across the park.

Celtic have been credited with interest in Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers, Brondby striker Mathias Kvistgaarden, and Dundee star Luke McCowan, among others this summer.

Along with players who could come in and make an immediate impact in the first-team, the Premiership champions could add more young talent to the group.

According to FD, as relayed by Football Scotland, the Scottish giants are keeping tabs on 18-year-old central midfielder Pontus Dahbo ahead of a possible swoop for his services.

The report claims that Rodgers has sent Celtic scouts to watch the Hacken star in action this season, as the Bhoys view him as a potential future star for the club.

It states that the Swedish outfit are set to demand a fee within the region of £3.4m for their talented academy graduate, who has done enough on the pitch to attract interest from the Hoops.

However, it remains to be seen whether or not the Premiership side are prepared to pay that fee or if they will wait to pursue him in a future window.

If they can strike a deal for his services, though, then they could land the future heir to Callum McGregor's role in Rodgers' midfield set-up at Parkhead.

Why Pontus Dahbo could be Callum McGregor 2.0

The 18-year-old is not a player who the Hoops would sign and expect to come in and immediately be a huge upgrade to their existing first-team squad.

He is in the early stages of his playing career and would arrive at Parkhead as a long-term project and, potentially, as someone who could go back out on loan to gain valuable experience.

As a left-footed central midfielder who likes to retain possession at an impressive rate whilst making an impact at the top end of the pitch,

Dahbo could develop into Rodgers' next version of McGregor.

As you can see in the table above, the teenage talent showcased his talent in and out of possession in the Swedish top-flight during the 2023 campaign.

Like McGregor, Dahbo completes his passes, in general and in the opposition's half, at a high rate and has the quality to chip in with goals and assists, whilst remaining strong out of possession by winning the majority of his battles.

The 18-year-old gem, who was hailed as a "skilled offensive" player by scout Philipp Hollenhorst, has also completed 89% of his attempted passes in the Allsvenskan this year.

There is no guarantee that he would be able to translate that form over to the Premiership but the talented prospect still has plenty of years left to develop and grow and could be a fantastic long-term project for Rodgers to work on.

Gordon's England teammate Marc Guehi is seen as a target for Liverpool with the Reds said to be confident in their ability to sign the Crystal Palace man before the window closes. Despite their interest in a deal for the defender, it is claimed that the Reds will have to fork out at least £65million to lure him away from South London.

Outside their pursuit of the England duo, the Reds are eyeing up a move for Portugal and Sporting Lisbon star Goncalo Inacio. A report from last week claimed that Liverpool are making progress in negotiations over a potential transfer for the central defender.

With FSG targeting new talents in all areas of the pitch, it appears that Liverpool have moved to the front of the queue in their pursuit of a sought-after international midfielder.

Liverpool in pole position for former Slot star

As relayed by Paisley Gates, the Italian press are claiming that Liverpool are leading the race of Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners.

Koopmeiner's preference had long been a move to Juventus, however the outlet states that Atalanta's asking price of around €60million (£50million) has proven too high for the Italian giants. With the 26-year-old's first choice now seemingly out of the race, it could open the door for Liverpool to seal the deal.

The scales could also be tipped in the Anfield outfit's favour thanks to Slot's links to Koopmeiners. Slot was the Dutchman's coach at AZ Alkmaar meaning that the pair already have an established relationship with each other.

If Liverpool are to get a deal for Koopmeiners over the line they would be landing a quality player that could be tipped to hit the ground running in the Premier League. The 26-year-old made 34 league appearances for Atalanta last season, contributing 12 goals and five assists in the process.

A player who Lopetegui has worked with previously, Kilman expressed his delight at signing for West Ham, saying via the club’s official website: “It’s an amazing feeling to be a West Ham United player.

“As soon as I was aware of the interest from the Club, it was an opportunity I was keen to pursue, so I couldn’t be more delighted to be here. I really enjoyed working with Julen during his time at Wolves – he’s a top-class coach and someone I learned a lot from, and I am confident I will continue to improve as a player under his management here.

“West Ham is a massive Club and I feel this is the natural next step forward in my career. Playing in front of a passionate fan-base, with 62,500 supporters packing out London Stadium every other week, is something I am incredibly excited about.”

Now, the club appear to be looking at further additions before the opening game against Aston Villa, with Villa Park forward Jhon Duran a firm target in attack.

After Kilman, though, more defenders appear to be wanted, with Lopetegui and technical director Tim Steidten linked with the likes of Ryan Sessegnon, who is available on a free transfer after leaving Tottenham, Jayden Oosterwolde of Fenerbahce, Lazio’s Luca Pellegrini and Al-Ettifaq defender Jack Hendry.

Now, a new defensive target has emerged, with the player in question recently at Euro 2024.

West Ham leading Josip Sutalo transfer race

According to Caught Offside, West Ham are interested in signing Ajax defender Josip Sutalo and are leading the race for the Croatia international ahead of Brighton & Hove Albion and Fulham due to their recent dealings with the Dutch giants after deals for Edson Alvarez and Mohammed Kudus.

The report states that Ajax value the centre-back at up to €30m (£25m), with the Hammers expected to come in with a first offer of around €23m (£19.3m).

Sutalo only joined Ajax from Dinamo Zagreb last summer and made 32 appearances in all competitions during his first season with the club. His displays resulted in him being called up to the Croatia squad for Euro 2024, where he played every minute of action in Group B at the heart of the defence.

A move to England could be next for the 24-year-old, and who knows, West Ham fans could see a completely new centre-back partnership of Kilman and Sutalo, should a move materialise over the coming weeks.
