Vale lembrar, que na semana passada, o pré-candidato Eduardo Carvalho, havia protocolado a liminar que determinava o adiamento das eleições no clube para março de 2021.

Até o fechamento da matéria, o Sport não havia se manifestado sobre o tema.

Hafeez called up to Test squad for Australia series

The allrounder, who last played Test cricket in August 2016, will be the 18th member of Pakistan’s squad for the two-Test series

Pakistan have added allrounder Mohammad Hafeez to their squad for the two-Test series against Australia in the UAE. Hafeez will fly to Dubai on the first available flight, ahead of the first Test that begins on October 7.Pakistan squad

Azhar Ali, Imam-ul-Haq, Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam, Asad Shafiq, Haris Sohail, Usman Salahuddin, Sarfraz Ahmed (capt & wk), Mohammad Rizwan, Faheem Ashraf, Shadab Khan, Bilal Asif, Yasir Shah, Mohammad Abbas, Wahab Riaz, Hasan Ali, Mir Hamza, Mohammad Hafeez

Hafeez’s inclusion is understood to have been made to bolster an inexperienced Pakistan top order that features Imam-ul-Haq, who has played three Tests, and Fakhar Zaman, who is uncapped, alongside regular Test opener Azhar Ali.The move comes at a time when Hafeez’s international career appeared to be winding down after months of being overlooked. Hafeez played the last of his 50 Tests in August 2016 and had since fallen out of favour with the selectors, who most recently ignored him for the Asia Cup that concluded last week. He last played for Pakistan in July this year, in a T20I against Australia, but was never a consistent fixture in the side, being named in Pakistan’s ODI squad for a bilateral series against Zimbabwe but not featuring in any of the matches. In a further indictment of how far he had fallen, Hafeez was demoted to category B in the PCB’s list of centrally contracted players that was announced in August.Hafeez has been outspoken about his non-selection in recent months, going so far as to nearly call for a press conference against the selection committee. However, he decided against that at the last minute and called his being dropped unfortunate, while making a brief statement about always being available for Pakistan. He has also been critical of Mickey Arthur, the head coach, who reportedly did not view Hafeez as part of his plans. All of that meant Hafeez was left to play domestic cricket, where he had an excellent run in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, Pakistan’s premier first-class tournament. Hafeez opened his tournament with a six-wicket haul that consigned Federally Administered Tribal Areas to an innings defeat. He also slammed 280 runs in three matches, including a double-century against Peshawar.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe eyeing "huge" Man Utd change as he eyes two new deals

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is eyeing up a "huge" change at Manchester United as he looks to seal deals that could benefit the Red Devils.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s plans at Man Utd

Ratcliffe appears to be closing in on a 25 per cent stake of the club worth more than £1.25bn and is seemingly putting plans in place ahead of what could be a phased takeover from the Glazers. The 71-year-old is looking to take immediate control of sporting decisions and has recently held extensive talks with Joel Glazer. Personnel changes could soon be on the agenda, with the futures of chief executive Richard Arnold and football director John Murtough at risk.

Erik ten Hag’s position as manager may also be under threat over the coming months, should things not improve, with claims that Ratcliffe is looking to sack Ten Hag and bring in Brighton & Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi. On top of the £1.25bn investment, Ratcliffe is also looking to invest £245m to improve Man Utd’s physical infrastructure, money which could be handed over by the end of the year.

That's not all, though, with a new update sharing another development on what Ratcliffe is planning in the coming years.

Ratcliffe eyeing two new deals

According to Football Insider, Ratcliffe is eyeing two new deals after he completes his investment in the Red Devils. Ratcliffe and Ineos currently own French club OGC Nice and Swiss side Lausanne, and it is believed that they are planning to add two more clubs to his network within 12-24 months. The report describes it as a game-changing plan and adds:

“Ratcliffe is willing to commit to big spending on football operations but hopes to make the club more self-sufficient by bringing through young talent more effectively in what would be a “huge” change to how they currently operate.”

As of now, Man Utd are unable to sign international U18 players due to work permit rules being changed, with some at Old Trafford feeling they are working with “one hand tied behind their back”. Therefore, if Ratcliffe is able to invest in, or take over two more clubs in the coming years, the Red Devils could benefit, whether that be sending some youngsters out on loan or bringing through potential stars of the future abroad before moving to Old Trafford.

It appears as if Ratcliffe has plenty of work to do in Manchester both on and off the pitch, but it is good to see that he seemingly has big plans for the club, and hopefully, an announcement will be made soon in regards to his investment to bring an end to the takeover saga, for now.

Boland five-for leaves Victoria one wicket away from innings win

A sublime unbeaten 250 from Marcus Harris and five wickets from Scott Boland have put Victoria on the verge of a crushing innings victory over New South Wales at the MCG. Needing 286 in their second innings to make Victoria bat again, New South Wales crumbled under the relentless pressure of Boland. He forced a mistake from Daniel Hughes early in the innings before Nick Larkin and Kurtis Patterson put up some resistance. Larkin made a well-compiled 53 before he was bowled leaving a ball from Andrew Fekete that snaked back off the seam from well wide of off stump. Moises Henriques was trapped plumb in front by Boland and Jack Edwards was castled by a devilish inswinger from Tremain. The Blues slumped from 4 for 167 to 9 for 175 in the space of 12 overs. Patterson reached his second half-century of the match but again fell to a right-arm quick angling in and seaming away from around the wicket. In the first innings it was Chris Tremain who found his outside edge, in the second it was Boland.Boland also knocked over Daniel Sams and Daniel Fallins for his fourth five-wicket haul in first-class cricket after Fawad Ahmed accounted for Peter Nevill and Jason Sangha. The Blues’ last wicket pair of Mickey Edwards and Trent Copeland survived for 60 balls on the third evening to ensure the game went into a fourth day.Earlier, Harris pushed on from his overnight total of 210 to make an even 250. He faced 403 balls and struck 22 fours and a six in his remarkable innings to put his name up in lights ahead of the Test series against India.Harris got incredible support from Fawad, who posted his highest score in first-class cricket. He made 34 from 90 balls with four fours and a six to rub salt into the Blues wounds. Harris and Andrew Fekete also added an unbeaten 54 for the 10th wicket before Peter Handscomb declared.

Everton sold academy star for £15m, now he’s worth just £173k

Everton's academy has produced some unbelievable talent over the years, some of which have gone on to reach their potential elsewhere, and others who have plummeted under the weight of their price tag.

Wayne Rooney is the most successful academy graduate in the club's history and it's highly unlikely they will ever produce someone who will eclipse what he achieved across his career.

Aside from scooping every trophy available at Manchester United, he also overtook Sir Bobby Charlton as the club's all-time top scorer with 253 goals and did the same with England, until Harry Kane blitzed past his record of 53 goals in 120 matches.

Whilst the likes of Rooney surpassed all expectations after departing Goodison Park, others have failed to live up to the potential that their formative years promised, and Jack Rodwell is a prime example of that.

Jack Rodwell's transfer value at Everton

Regarded as the next big thing when he broke into the Everton team aged just 16, Rodwell was one of several English talents who were overhyped in the early stages of their career.

It's common knowledge that any player who makes their Premier League debut at such a tender age is going to have the world watching them and that was the case with Rodwell, who accumulated 109 appearances for the Toffees before turning 21.

After garnering an impressive CV at Goodison, which included that goal against Manchester United in a 3-1 victory, he would soon earn a lucrative move to Manchester City for £15m in 2012.

During this period, the Cityzens needed to fill their quota of homegrown players and considering Rodwell was one of the hottest English prospects at the time, it seemed fitting that the 21-year-old joined the champions.

A box-to-box midfielder, who possessed an ability to drive forward with his strength and power, the Englishman was expected to utilise those attributes in Manchester but found his game time limited as world-class talents Yaya Toure and David Silva kept him out of the team.

Despite showing so much promise, Rodwell's move to Man City ended up being premature, ill-advised and disrupted by injuries as he made just 25 appearances at the club before accepting a £10m transfer to Sunderland in 2014.

Rodwell's transfer value at Sunderland

After joining Sunderland in search of regular game time, he struggled to impress at the Stadium of Light.

Between 2013 and 2017, he went 39 league matches without a win – a record streak of 1370 days.

With the North East giants plummeting into League One in 2018 as a result of their financial carnage, Rodwell was the poster boy for that mismanagement in the transfer window.

He was depicted as a villain during this period as the Netflix Sunderland till I die documentary showcased the repeated attempts made by hapless executives to offload him and his £70,000-per-week salary.

Jack Rodwell rinsed Sunderland dry

Jack Rodwell will go down as arguably the worst signing in Sunderland’s history, for how he drained the club.

Rodwell was eventually released in June 2018 and after making just 76 appearances for the club across four years, saw his expected transfer value (xTV) plummet to €1m (£868k), as per Football Transfers, which is a whopping £9m decrease from what the Black Cats initially signed him for.

Rodwell's transfer value now

It isn't uncommon to see footballers resurrect their careers after seeing them fall to the wayside, but Rodwell continued to fall in value and stature after leaving the Stadium of Light.

Following a spell with Blackburn Rovers in the Championship, he was a free agent again and had unsuccessful trials with New England Revolution and, rather surprisingly, Paulo Fonseca's Roma.

Despite making such a rapid crash, Chris Wilder took a chance on Rodwell in 2019 at Sheffield United, believing the Englishman – who was 28 at the time – could still fulfil his potential as a physically strong, athletic, tough-tackling midfielder.

However, after totalling just 73 minutes of football across 18 months at Bramall Lane, it became clear that taking a gamble on him was never going to pay off.

After being released by the Blades in June 2021, the former Everton starlet has since moved to Australia; first plying his trade for A-League Western Sydney Wanderers and now Sydney FC.

These days, a 32-year-old Rodwell is most likely enjoying a lavished lifestyle down under rather than his football and it's no surprise to see his xTV nosedive to €200k (£173k).

In hindsight, Everton made the right decision to cash in on the 6 foot 2 flop for £15m but Rodwell's career will always be the curious case of what could have been.

MCG pitch under scrutiny ahead of Boxing Day Test

Justin Langer hopes it will provide a genuine contest between bat and ball, but there is no guarantee it will prove much livelier than the one that was rated poor last year

Melinda Farrell at the MCG24-Dec-20182:06

‘Won’t be like Perth, but will have pace’ – MCG curator

Australia coach Justin Langer is hopeful the MCG pitch will provide a genuine contest between bat and ball, something he believes could secure the future of Test cricket. The nature of the MCG pitch is under intense scrutiny ahead of the Boxing Day Test, with a distinctly green tinge two days out, giving some hope but no guarantee it will prove much livelier than the dull surface that was rated “poor” after last year’s draw against England.”It’s great to see some grass,” Langer said. “I’ve played Shield cricket here over last six or seven years, seen the Test here, and I’ve said forever the most important thing in Test cricket – international cricket – are the pitches.”If you have great pitches you’ll have contest between bat and ball, then Test cricket will be alive and well. If we play on flat wickets then it becomes a really boring game and that’s from someone who loves Test cricket.”Hopefully it’s a contest between bat and ball because it’s really important, not just for this series but also for world cricket.”ALSO READ: Don’t judge MCG pitch by its grass cover – Marcus HarrisAfter the Ashes Test last summer the MCG curator, Matt Page, oversaw some changes to the block, including the addition of a layer of sand to allow better drainage of moisture and encourage the pitch to become more spin friendly on the later days of the Test. But Marcus Harris, who made 250 for Victoria at the MCG in a Sheffield Shield match, had earlier told ESPNcricinfo he expected any early liveliness provided by the grass would give way to a slow scoring surface that largely held together.Meanwhile, Langer, a native of Western Australia who played much of his domestic cricket at the WACA ground, claimed the pitch used for the second Test was the quickest he had ever witnessed in Perth. The ICC rated the Perth Stadium pitch as “average”, a decision that puzzled the Australia coach.”I was really surprised actually,” Langer said. “I guess a couple stayed low. But I thought it was such entertaining Test cricket – that was the fastest pitch I’ve ever seen in Perth and I’ve been there a long time.”I thought it was really exciting Test cricket, got a result on the fifth day. From a personal point of view I love seeing cricket played like that.

Spurs’ “special” 6 ft 1 Spurs “engine" is making Ange forget all about Maddison

Tottenham Hotspur failed to secure victory once again in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon, but Ange Postecoglou won't care about that.

Leaving the Etihad Stadium with a point against Treble-winning Manchester City, Postecoglou praised his players after an enthralling 3-3 affair, remarking at how they made it "uncomfortable" for the hosts.

Spurs have been ravaged by injury over recent weeks and have lost a shocking amount of players to derail the early-season title charge, but the spirited display against the champions evidences the quality within this Tottenham squad.

Notably, influential summer signings James Maddison and Micky van de Ven have been absent since nine-man Spurs lost to Chelsea, but Giovani Lo Celso has stepped up in creative genius Maddison's absence of late.

Giovani Lo Celso's season in numbers

Discarded and discredited as a Premier League-quality star, Lo Celso is enjoying a blooming revival under Postecoglou's wing of late, making good use of the opportunity arising from Maddison's issue – with the England international sidelined until the new year.

Scoring against City and Aston Villa in his past two appearances in the English top flight, the Argentinian midfielder has proved that he has what it takes to impress.

The £70k-per-week ace had spent the past 18 months out on loan with Villarreal after struggling to make his mark in London, but a resurgence may well be on the cards if he sustains his recent exploits.

dejan-kulusevski-giovani-lo-celso-tottenham-opinion

As per FBref, he ranks among the top 20% of positional peers across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for goals, the top 11% for assists, the top 6% for shot-creating actions and the top 1% for pass completion, passes attempted and progressive passes per 90.

With Postecoglou implementing a free-flowing, expansive style, the security that he brings to the centre of the park is a testament to his natural quality, but he's not actually the man to assume Maddison's role.

That task appears to have fallen on Dejan Kulusevski's shoulders…

Dejan Kulusevski is Tottenham's "engine"

With Kulusevski's daring header bypassing Ederson's goal to secure a draw in the dying embers against Manchester City, Sky Sports' Jamie Weir was among the masses in awe.

The reporter said: "Dejan Kulusevski really is a special special player. Works so hard, covers every blade of grass. Hell of an engine on him, and just so much heart."

Having started all 14 of Tottenham's Premier League fixtures this term, the Swedish winger has scored four goals and supplied an assist, but his impact stretches far beyond his final product.

As per Sofascore, the 23-year-old has complemented his direct return with an average of two key passes, 1.4 tackles and 4.1 ball recoveries per game, highlighting his multi-dimensional approach to his craft.

Over the past two games, the 6 foot 1 Kulusevski has been shifted into a central attacking role to mirror Maddison, and his display against the champions is an apt illustration of his pedigree and aptitude in interchangeability.

Maddison, who had scored three goals and supplied five assists in the Premier League for the Lilywhites before his injury – winning August's Player of the Month – has averaged 2.9 key passes per game.

Pundit Jermaine Jenas claimed that the 26-year-old is "on the verge" of becoming world-class, and while that may be so, Kulusevski is proving that he can flourish in the centre for Postecoglou, allowing Lo Celso to sit deeper and pull the strings.
