ScorecardBen Duckett and Daniel Bell-Drummond smashed their way into the record books with the second-highest List A partnership in the world as England Lions cruised to a 140-run win over Sri Lanka A at Canterbury.Duckett had made 163 not out in the first match of the tri-series last week and his unbeaten 220 here set a new record for an England Lions player – topping captain Dawid Malan’s 185 against the same opposition on Thursday. Duckett shared in an unbeaten 367-run partnership with Bell-Drummond, from only 232 balls, as the Kent opener recorded his maiden List A ton.The partnership was the highest ever at Canterbury – a record held by England’s Eoin Morgan and Nick Compton since 2009 – and just to make sure of their place in history, the Lions also recorded the highest List A score at the Spitfire Ground.”It’s been the best day of my career so far – the last 10 days have been a great experience for me,” Duckett said. “There were a couple of times early on when I hit it, it dropped short of fielders and I got a bit of luck.”When I got to 100 I said I’m going to push on. It was my day I guess – every time I hit the ball it went into the gap. There as a lot of spin bowling which I do prefer facing. I’ll try and continue this run of form and score some runs when I go back to Northampton.”England won the toss and chose to bat, with Malan’s the only England wicket falling. He was stumped for 23 off 31 balls by Niroshan Dickwella, providing Ramith Rambukwella with Sri Lanka A’s solitary bowling success of the day. Before the match Malan had spoken to the team of adaptability, both with the bat and ball – something which had already won the tri-series for the Lions following Sunday’s victory over Pakistan A. Toby Roland-Jones and George Garton were the only changes from the that match, replacing Mark Wood, who had returned to Durham, and Sam Curran. But it took England’s bowling attack 14 overs before they took their first wicket, when Dickwella was caught by Sam Billings from a George Garton delivery with the score on 105. That was quickly followed by the dismissal of Sri Lanka A’s other opener, Mahela Udawatte for 40, in the same over.Angelo Perera led Sri Lanka A’s fightback with a score of 69 before being caught by Duckett from a Saqib Mahmood delivery. Rambukwella was also dismissed by Mahmood, caught by Tom Curran.Garton added to his wicket haul for the day by bowling Thisara Perera and Sachith Pathirana for 45 and 18 respectively. The four wickets from Garton, with two from Liam Dawson and one each for Malan and Brett D’Oliveira ensured Sri Lanka were all out for 285, giving England a huge win.Andy Flower, the Lions coach, said: “We’ve played four matches and we’ve won four. We’ve had some great performances and we have taken opportunities to put young players out there.”That’s a healthy thing for England cricket if they are pushing for places. There have been some great performances, some exciting performances – we have seen four centurions and some very big individual scores this series.”

43 y/o Linked With West Ham Sporting Director Job

Insider ExWHUEmployee has claimed that West Ham United could potentially hire Michael Edwards as a new football director to help with transfers.

Are West Ham looking for a new Sporting Director?

After spending well over £150m on transfers in the summer, it seems as though co-owner David Sullivan is not happy at all with how things have turned out after that notable involvement.

After all, the club have struggled down at the bottom of the Premier League for most of the campaign and it has recently been reported that he will look to take some responsibility away from David Moyes and Head of Recruitment Rob Newman.

With that being the case, Ex how now stated that the club are on the hunt for a new executive to come in for the Irons and it could be former Liverpool sporting director Edwards.

Indeed, in an update shared on The West Ham Way Patreon, the insider explained: "As we discussed on last week's podcast the club is looking at potential football directors to replace Rob Newman.

"David Sullivan has not been happy with the money spent this season. Who takes the ultimate responsibility for this is open to debate but it seems that the club feel that something has to change.

"There are many potential candidates in the mix. None of which have been confirmed because they don’t know whether they are working for a club in Europe next season. Of course, this could be as clear as Thursday but hopefully not.

He went on to say: "Paul Mitchell is an interesting name to emerge as he is close mates with Mark Noble with the pair watching games together last year in Monaco where Mitchell is employed.

"Michael Edwards is another who made a good impression at Liverpool and is available to work now who could be of interest but there are many potential targets. Who the manager may be will also have a bearing on who is appointed so there are a number of key events that need to happen before we know which target we go for."

What did Michael Edwards do at Liverpool?

As Ex mentions, there are other names on the list too right now, with former Monaco sporting director (and current board member for the French club) Mitchell directly named.

Though it's likely that West Ham fans will be most excited by Edwards after what he has achieved in the Premier League with the Reds.

Indeed, under the 43-year-old transfer guru's guidance, the Liverpool recruitment team pulled off great value-for-money signings such as signings of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino – while also selling Philippe Coutinho join Barcelona for £142 million – allowing the club to go on and win the league and the Champions League and other numerous trophies (via ESPN).

With that in mind, it certainly would be a major coup if the Irons were able to bring the Edwards to east London.

Howell impresses with bat and ball but Kent steal home

Gloucestershire’s run of success in the NatWest T20 Blast South Group ended with a three-run defeat by Kent in a dramatic finish at Bristol

Gloucestershire’s run of success in the NatWest T20 Blast South Group ended with a three-run defeat by Kent in a dramatic finish at Bristol. The visitors posted what seemed a moderate 148 for seven after losing the toss, having been given a decent start by openers Joe Denly (51) and Tom Latham. Benny Howell claimed three for 29, while Andrew Tye conceded only 19 from his four overs. In reply, Gloucestershire could manage only 145 for eight, despite 42 from Michael Klinger and Benny Howell’s rapid 37. Kagiso Rabada (1 for 19) and David Griffiths (2 for 22) were the pick of the Kent attack. The hosts needed 16 off the last over, begun by Mitchell Claydon, but finished by Griffiths after the Australian has been ordered out of the attack for a second no-ball full toss above waist height.Kent skipper Sam Northeast said: “Mitchell Claydon was supposed to pitch the ball halfway down the pitch in the final over so I’m not sure what went wrong. It was a greasy ball, which obviously slipped out of his hand, and these things happen.”Fortunately David Griffiths had a couple of overs left so we were able to turn to him. He has been a death bowler for us so he was a good guy to have up our sleeves.”As against Somerset last night, we were slightly disappointed with our score, but the bowlers have done the business for us. Now the aim is to win our last three group games and see where it takes us.”The start of the match saw Denly help himself to early sixes off Matt Taylor’s first and second over, but Gloucestershire bowled well in the powerplay, with Liam Norwell bowling three overs for 19, to restrict their visitors to 46 without loss after six overs.Even so, Kent looked to have laid the foundation for a decent total when with the total on 57 in the eighth over Latham was caught at deep mid-wicket off Howell.Denly went on to a 33-ball half-century, with four sixes and two fours, before getting an under-edge to Tye and being bowled with the score on 94 in the 12th over.It proved a turning point as Howell, Tye and left-arm spinner Tom Smith put the squeeze on Kent. Only 17 runs were added in the next four overs, which saw the demise of Sam Northeast and Alex Blake.A brief Darren Stevens cameo of 20 off ten balls was the best the visitors could manage and their total looked below par in good batting conditions.Gloucestershire made a poor start chasing the modest target when Hamish Marshall was run out for a single by a smart piece of fielding from Kagiso Rabada off his own bowling.Ian Cockbain was struck on the helmet by Rabada before being bowled for eight by a good delivery from Mitch Claydon. At the end of the powerplay Gloucestershire were 37 for 2, but Rabada had bowled three of the six overs, clearly in an attempt to remove danger-man Klinger. The Gloucestershire captain looked well set in the 12th over when a leg-side wide from James Treadwell saw him stumped by Sam Billings. At the end of that over the hosts were 74 for 3.Howell went straight on the attack, blasting a straight six and a four off the next over from Fabian Cowdrey. With Chris Dent already going well, it was the impetus Gloucestershire needed.Dent went for 28 to an injudicious scoop shot off Griffiths that saw him glove through to Billings and at 104 for 4 in the 15th over the game was still in the balance.Kent took control when Kieran Noema-Barnett was caught at mid-on off Claydon and Gareth Roderick was bowled by a full ball from Griffiths.Rabada returned to bowl Tye with the second ball of the penultimate over, but drama ensued when Claydon’s first delivery of the last over slipped and he had to hand over to Griffiths. That drama continued as Howell, was caught off another no-ball for height, only to be run out as he tried to claim a second run. Griffiths then held his nerve and the home side fell agonisingly short.

Newcastle’s "Perfect" £4m-rated Machine Stole The Show Vs CFC

Newcastle United ended their remarkable 22/23 Premier League campaign on a high after earning a point at Stamford Bridge in a thrilling 1-1 draw, having qualified for next season’s Champions League last week.

Eddie Howe’s side were unable to secure victory against Chelsea, who have plummeted to mid-table obscurity and finish in 12th place after a woeful season, though demonstrated their grit and determination after holding on against the home side’s second-half onslaught.

Anthony Gordon opened his account for the Tyneside club after netting his first goal since completing a £45m move from Everton in January and staked his claim for a prominent role next term after struggling to find his feet across the maiden phase of his career with United.

While the fleet-footed winger will steal most of the headlines for his point-securing goal, it was midfield machine Elliot Anderson who deserves the plaudits for impressing during one of his rare starting appearances in the Premier League, grabbing the assist for his outfit’s solitary strike on the afternoon.

How did Elliot Anderson perform vs Chelsea?

The Magpies’ homegrown talent has not played with consistent regularity under Howe’s wing this season, but he has impressed when called upon and looks to be a reliable option for his manager, especially when considering the increase in competition next year.

The £4m-rated starlet makes his midfield work look “effortless” – as former boss Steve Bruce proclaimed – and plays with a composure that belies his 20 years of age and inexperience (the contest at Stamford Bridge was Anderson’s third league start of the campaign).

Against Chelsea, he produced another all-encompassing display and complemented his “perfect” pass for Gordon’s goal – as it was described by the Chronicle’s Lee Ryder – with an impressive blend of composure, tenacity and guile.

Eddie Howe and Elliot Anderson celebrate Newcastle United's Premier League victory over Manchester United.

As per Sofascore, the “huge talent” – as he was once heralded by Joey Barton – recorded an average match rating of 7.0, making 37 touches, completing 86% of his passes, succeeding with two of his three attempted dribbles and winning four of his seven duels.

Dominic Scurr gave the Scotland U21 international an 8/10 match rating for his feats and said: ‘Grabbed his first Premier League assist in only third start. Was really tidy in possession and was a threat going forward with some teasing balls into the penalty area. Ran himself into the ground before being taken off.’

For a player that has played a peripheral role in the top-flight this term, Anderson is exuding confidence and could grow into a central role at St. James’s Park over the next few years.

With more stellar showings such as the one against Chelsea, he will certainly have left his manager pensively reflecting upon the best way to fit the youngster into his plans.

South Africa extend support to two-tier Test system

Cricket South Africa chief executive Haroon Lorgat has declared his board’s support for the introduction of two divisions in Test cricket

Cricket South Africa chief executive Haroon Lorgat has declared his board’s support for the introduction of two divisions in Test cricket, as debate intensifies about the future of the game.”Test cricket is already fading and will die if nothing is done,” Lorgat said. “South Africa would support a two-tier Test system in order to create meaningful context for Test match cricket. Currently there is little or no meaning when countries play against each other in bilateral Test matches, save for the Ashes.”The model of two division Test cricket devised by the ICC would feature seven teams in division one and five in division two, with each team playing a series either home or away against the others in their divisions over a two-year cycle. The standings would then be used to determine the overall winner of the Test league, and promotion and relegation between the two divisions. The winners of the Intercontinental Cup, the first-class competition for Associate nations, would also be able to win promotion to division two.”A two-tier system with promotion and relegation will allow for a much better narrative plus two more teams will have the opportunity to play Test match cricket,” Lorgat said. “The Test league can also link down to the Intercontinental Cup where again promotion and relegation will create context and opportunity for other countries.”The news that South Africa endorse the two division plan follows officials from Australia, England and New Zealand supporting the proposals, which are favoured by ICC chief executive David Richardson.Although Anurag Thakur, the president of the BCCI, recently voiced his opposition to two divisions, some other Full Members remain hopeful that the plans could yet pass. Any change would need the vote of seven of the ten Full Members on the ICC board, and Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have also expressed their opposition to two divisions. One insider said that they believed that Pakistan lean towards supporting two divisions, but Zimbabwe are believed to be reluctant.West Indies have still not decided on their stance. “At this point in time the West Indies Cricket Board does not have enough information to make an informed decision,” Dave Cameron, the president of the WICB, said. “However in world football there are no divisions with over 200 nations participation, and so off the bat we cannot see the need for divisions if we have 12 teams participating in Test cricket.”While Thakur said that the BCCI was worried that “the smaller countries will lose out” under the proposals, Lorgat does not think this would be the case. As well as Associate nations benefiting from the introduction of promotion and relegation, he also said that lower-ranked Full Members, like Bangladesh, could stand to gain from the reforms. “In the proposed system they will have certainty of Test fixtures compared to now when they are at the mercy of countries playing against them.” Sides in division two would also be free to organise extra matches against division one teams. The ICC is due to meet in Dubai next month for a special meeting to discuss comprehensive reforms to the structure of cricket, including the introduction of two divisions in Tests, a 13-team ODI league and ratifying bringing the World T20 back to a once-in-two-years event.

Borthwick, Stoneman plot Durham route to safety

Scott Borthwick and Mark Stoneman plotted a route to safety as Durham and Warwickshire both took solace in the draw points that eased their relegation worries

A stand of 151 between Scott Borthwick and Mark Stoneman ensured Durham were able to hold out for a draw in the Specsavers County Championship match against Warwickshire at Chester-le-Street.Durham were only ten behind with eight wickets standing when Stoneman fell for 80 and Borthwick went on to make 91 before he departed five balls before hands were shaken.Rikki Clarke came on bowling off spin and his first ball was so wide of off stump Borthwick could not resist flailing at it, only to get a big inside edge into his stumps.Durham were on 195 for three, 21 ahead with 22 overs still availabel when a draw was declared, Warwickshire taking 11 points and Durham eight. It was a welcome return to form for Borthwick, whose form slumped when he was widely reported to be on the verge of England selection.Things looked ominous for Durham when, with 84 overs to bat, they lost Keaton Jennings for a duck in the fifth, when he pushed forward and edged Keith Barker behind. But Borthwick was soon stroking Barker effortlessly through the covers, while Stoneman had made only one when he whipped Chris Wright over long leg for six.Patel came on for the 14th over and conceded only seven runs in his first nine overs, going closest to a breakthrough when Stoneman missed an attempted cut on 45 and was almost bowled.A repeat of the stroke brought the three runs which took him to 50 as nine runs suddenly came off Patel’s tenth over. Both batsmen completed their half-centuries off 93 balls and continued neck and neck as Durham reached 162 for one at tea, only 12 behind. Stoneman was bowled by Patel without addition.Resuming on 344 for 7 in the morning, Warwickshire added 37 in ten overs, losing Tim Ambrose for 50, before declaring 174 ahead. Barker was unbeaten on 43.Warwickshire captain Ian Bell said: “We came in this morning excited about our opportunity considering the amount of movement there had been in the pitch.”But it was not to be. This was a better day for batting, whereas yesterday would have been a good day to bowl. It seems to be a trend of the season that every time we get in a good position the weather gets in the way.”

Liverpool Closing In On Agreement With £50k-p/w 24-y/o Star

Liverpool are closing in on a deal to sign Alexis Mac Allister, and a deal could be completed as early as next week, Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

What's the latest on Mac Allister and Liverpool?

The Argentinian has been in sensational form for Brighton this season, helping Roberto De Zerbi's side qualify for Europe, and the 24-year-old has been the subject of transfer interest.

Liverpool are in need of a midfield rebuild, with the likes of Naby Keita and James Milner departing this summer, and it seems that they are set to land the first of their targets.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano revealed that there are just a number of details to finalise before the deal is completed.

"Important update on Alexis Mac Allister, because Carlos, the father of the player will be in England this weekend. The mission is to complete the negotiation for Alexis Mac Allister next week. We know Liverpool are absolutely the front-runners, they have to complete some final details on the contract of the player and then Alexis will become a new Liverpool player," he stated.

"They have an agreement in principle on the length of the contract, on the salary, it is about some final clauses that they are discussing for Alexis Mac Allister, and then he will agree 100% on the personal terms with Liverpool and then join Liverpool, because they will pay the release clause to Brighton, and trust me, if you see reports of £70m, 65 or £60m, it is way less than this, the release clause.

"That's a very good deal for Liverpool in this case if they will be able to complete everything, but the timing is very clear next week for Alexis Mac Allister."

What will Mac Allister bring to Liverpool?

The World Cup winner will likely be one of a number of midfield signings for Liverpool as Jurgen Klopp aims to rebuild his side with a younger set of players, and Mac Allister could be an excellent addition.

The £50k-per-week star will arrive with plenty of experience for Brighton and Argentina, and he could add extra goal threat from the middle of the park.

Brighton midfielder Alexis Mac Allister.

The 24-year-old ranks in the top percentile of European midfielders for shots attempted, as well as ranking highly for goals and progressive carries as per FBref. He will bring security and energy on the ball, as well as being able to increase the overall output of Liverpool's low-scoring midfield.

No central midfielder scored more than five goals this season for Liverpool, with Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones scoring five and three each, and Mac Allister's 12 strikes this season represents a significant upgrade in front of goal.
